A few months back I bought a plant for my home that I thought would require little to no maintenance, which meant that I would be able to keep it alive. But I was wrong. I have watched the plant struggle for life. Some of the tips are brown and parts of the plant seem to be struggling for its life and regardless of my efforts to nurse it back to its original state, progress is slow.
And thinking about the resurrection of Jesus Christ also got me thinking about how we all may have areas in our lives that are holding on for dear life. We try all that we know to do in our strength and power to revive those areas and we come up short. But the good news is that through Christ’s victory over death, we also have victory in our dead situations.
As I thought about what the Resurrection of Jesus means for my life personally, I couldn’t help but to think about the following scripture:
John 11:25-26 “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
The original Greek word for resurrection is anastasis which means a raising up, rising, standing up again, a resurrection from death, raised to life again, a moral recovery. Are you excited yet? Through Christ’s resurrection, we rise up again though we may fall short otherwise. Through His resurrection, we too are resurrection. We come alive, we raise up, we live again.
Our dead areas have the ability to spring up when we believe in Him and in His resurrection power.
Through Him, our hearts to come alive again. Our faith, dreams, relationships, gifts can flourish again. Our hope in Him can be raised up. Do you believe this?
In order for something to be brought BACK to life, it must first DIE. So to experience a spiritual resurrection, we must crucify our flesh so that our spirit can come alive again. We must crucify our will so his can come alive in our lives. And this doesn’t only happen on Easter Sunday. We have the ability to access Christ’s resurrection power everyday, but only if we are willing to allow those very things desperately need to come alive a chance to die and be raised again through Christ.
Thank you Lord that through your shed blood on the cross, we have the opportunity to be revived in every area of our lives. It is in your power, in your blood and through the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit that we obtain and sustain this new life. May your resurrection live in our hearts every day.
