A few days ago as I sat on my couch in a quiet living room (after the kids were in bed), I became overwhelmed with a sense of gratitude. I thought of all the blessings I had and as I looked around the house, my sense of gratitude continued to grow. Tears welled up in my eyes as I considered my life. I was in awe at all that God had done for me.
When I consider my story – coming to the United States with a backpack worth of belongings, two families living in a two bedroom house, not knowing where college tuition would come from because we did not qualify for financial aid…when I consider all these things (and that’s not even the half of it), I arrive at one conclusion. No matter how I choose to examine my life, God has been awesome! God has been wonderful! God has worked miracles for me. Minuscule blessings and gigantic blessings have all been a part of my story.
No, my story hasn’t been perfect. It hasn’t been a rose-covered walk in the park. I’ve experienced my share of disappointments, pain, tears and heartbreaks. In fact, I still have those moments. And honestly, its quite easy to focus on all that is missing in your life – to look what at what you could have, what you should have, what you missed out on. But today, only for a moment I choose to focus on all that I have going for me. I choose to focus on the blessings of God. I choose to focus on all that has worked out for my good. I choose to consider where I would be but for the grace of God and in that, I rejoice.
Your story is different from mine but nonetheless, if you consider it, your story is filled with blessings that were packaged in unique ways, gifts that only you could receive and open. Your story is one of triumph, strength and courage. Your story is one that perhaps others couldn’t live through. I urge you to reflect on your story. Consider where you were maybe even a few years ago and then consider where you are now.
No matter how you choose to examine your life, take a moment and see that God has been faithful. Choose to see that God has been working behind the scenes of your story. Choose to see that He’s still the Executive Producer, the ScriptWriter and the Director of your story.
Lord, I pause today and reflect on your goodness. I know that you are still writing my story. Though the plot of my story has been filled with pain, disappointment and heartbreaks, you continue to write a story that is uniquely mine. You continue to lead me towards a resolution that proves that You are with me each step of the way. Thank you for my story. Thank you for my journey. May I use it to draw others to you. May I never stop being in awe of You.
