Amos 3:2 “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?”
Imagine a three-legged race where one of the two individuals participating refuses for whatever reason to participate. Maybe that person is hurt, offended, too exhausted, busy with other things, not ready, not focused not interested, etc. His/her refusal to participate presents a challenge for the willing party and leaves a few options for the other person who wants to participate in the race:
- Drag the other person along (dead weight)
- Work with the other person as best as possible and eventually complete the race (maybe way past the expected schedule)
- Not participate at all
Either way, participant 1 will have obstacles that may impact his ability to reach his goals. Amos 3:2 reminds us that unless there is agreement, no progress can occur.
Similarly, God wants to move us along and help us run the race. He wants to partner with us and to move us forward, but we have not agreed with what He seeks to do. We are the dead weight in this scenario, still fighting, pouting, complaining, and looking at other teams to see what they are doing. As long as we refuse to agree with the direction God is pointing us, we will not be able to move forward into our destiny and purpose.
Ahhh, but when we decide to walk in agreement with God, when we decide to be obedient, when we walk in tandem with Him, allowing Him to take the first step and lead us, He makes our path straight (Proverbs 3:6) and He leads us in the paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:3).
Lord, I know that you have great things in store for me. Reveal any areas in my life where I am not walking in agreement with you and help me to trust you to lead the way.
