“You’re doing the most.”
My students have often accused me of this and perhaps they are right. Some days it feels like I have my hand in too many pots at once. Some days I’m doing “the most” without really accomplishing anything at all. Some days I am on edge and stressed out because it doesn’t look like all the things on my to-do list will get accomplished. On more than one occasion, I’ve had to make a choice between two or more events that were scheduled at the same time. On many occasions, I’ve felt like screaming and hiding out in my closet with hopes of not being found.
Sometimes I’m doing “the most” and I neglect to do the important things. I rush through the times that I should savor. I give my attention and time to everything except the things that will empower me to make it through.
And it is often the moment when it all seems to be caving in or at least, when I’m ready to cave in that I actually hear God saying “Be still and know that I am God.”
Be still and listen to my voice. Be still and hear my word. Be still and relax. Be still and stop stressing. Be still and let me say something to you. Be still and be at peace. Be still and stop worrying. Be still and let me carry you step by step, moment by moment. Just be still.
Psalm 46:10 – “Be still and know that I am God! I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Lord teach me to be still and know that YOU are God. When I’m in a frenzy and too busy checking things off my list, help me realize that you are waiting for me to seek you. You are as close to me as I want you to be.
